Hi everyone! The American Phytopathological Society has announced the creation of an award for mentors at any level (PI, postdoc, grad student) who have excelled in mentoring to increase the diversity of scientists studying plant pathology.
The goal of the Lafayette Frederick Diversity in Mentoring Award is to increase the number of practicing plant pathologists from underrepresented groups. The application period is from February to March 15 and information on how to apply can be found here. The only eligibility criteria is that the awardee be a member of APS. Although APS is primarily a US organization, applicants do not need to be located in the US.
APS is currently raising funds to support this award, with a goal of US$100,000 (which will allow yearly awards totaling $2000). APS Council and APS Foundation have each agreed to provide $20,000 in matching funds. Departments, institutions, individuals are all welcome to contribute.
